Live on the App Store:)
Thank you all
First of all, thank you guys so much for being a part of our journey to the App Store. I want to share some of the milestones, obstacles the universe threw in our direction, and maybe interesting points of launching an app for macOS.
But before that, I want to apologize that we started a blog and then didn’t publish anything for 6 months. I think this is completely normal blog behavior, but as some eager users still were quite disappointed (I think you know who you are; please feel accepted this apology).
We made an insane amount of progress over the last six months, and I’m very proud of my friends for pulling through this together with me. I will always remember when we decided the app should be a single-window app, and we (mostly me, lol) refactored the whole app to bring it all together. Also, when I finally understood how SwiftData works, I again refactored the whole app over a timespan of 5 hours. After that, the app was so much better I nearly cried.
One of my favorite designs was to change the app layout to have a sidebar and not those giant icons - that locked great in my sketches but not so much in the app. Luca wanted to change it for months - and always tried to tell me in a nice way that he doesn’t like the current designs - but I fought for those old icons like crazy. Now, I’m really glad I listened to Luca.
As for obstacles, I don’t want to talk about them too much here, but I will never forget when we got the mail that we were accepted into the App Store - after being rejected 3 times - just to find out that we are live everywhere except the eu. I felt so angry and helpless, and it took us over a week to get the necessary approvals on an eu level. But that’s now behind us.
Let’s call it a day and thank you all so much for being on this journey with us.
P.S.
When I pitched the app idea the first time to friends and till quite a while into the development, it was called NicoNotes. At some point, I actually thought we might launch with that name.
